Falling into the Rabbit Hole that is Vaporizing

Have all your friends and internet sources been falling victim to the vaporizer hype? Well I’m here to tell you the hype is real. Vaporizers are pretty spectacular and they definitely add some awesome to your set up. Now how do you get started? What are the benefits? Why choose it in addition to, or over traditional smoking methods? Well I’m here to help you embark on your vaporization journey and answer these important questions.

To start off I recommend learning why you would want to dabble in vaporization in the first place! One of the biggest reasons people purchase a vaporizer is for health reasons. A vaporizer eliminates smoke inhalation which can harm the lungs. Their are also carcinogens and other toxins that are associated with combustion based methods that some people just don’t want to inhale. You can also get higher from fewer hits because the vapor has a very high concentration of THC, which can be a great thing for medicinal users.

Another perk a lot of people appreciate about vaporizing is the reduction of smell. Vaporizing is way less potent smelling than smoking a pipe or bong, so much so that I can use my vaporizer in hotel rooms without trouble. Vaporizing also uses less weed than a pipe, bong, or any other traditional method. My favorite aspect of vaporizing is one of the most exciting, after you have vaporized the weed in your vaporizer you can use the vaporized weed to make easy edibles. I am not a great cook so AVB (Already Vaped Bud) is a simpler way to make some really intense edibles. AVB is edible straight out of the vaporizer, although I would advise mixing it with peanut butter or yogurt since vaporized weed isn’t very tasty by itself.

Now that we have our reasons for investing in a vaporizer what kind of vaporizers are their? Well a vaporizer can be as big as a full grown cat or as small as a sharpie it all depends on what you are looking for. If you want something more portable I would recommend a Magic Flight Launch Box (MFLB) or a Pax, these are the ones I know work well but of course their are many other great items on the market. Now if your looking for something with a little more power a Volcano vaporizer which fills a bag with vapor that you hit instead of the actual machine works beautifully. Another interesting option is the glass on glass vaporizer called the VapeXhale, it has glass attachments and is very high quality. Their are many more vaporizers out there, but my personal experience with these products has been very positive and so I feel it necessary to recommend them to you.

How to Keep Your Weed Fresh and Smokable

So you have acquired some weed, maybe for the first time, maybe for the thousandth time; either way you need to be able to keep your bud fresh, soft, and potent. The issue of keeping bud from drying out is a common one, another issue that younger pot smokers may experience is blocking the smell. Well I’m here to tell you, you can kill two birds with one stone! How can you embark on this magical journey of keeping your weed fresh you may ask, well lets start out with our equipment list:

  • First of all you need some sort of container to put it in, my first choice is a good old fashioned mason jar, they are airtight and roomy. Although if you would like to use something a bit more modern you might want to think about purchasing a CVault which is an airtight metal container used for storing herbs. The airtight container will cut down on smell quite a bit so that solves one of our problems relatively easily.
  • The next item on our list is a bit trickier to come by, you will need something that will regulate the humidity in your container. Keeping the humidity at the right level can transform dry brittle bud into soft fluffy smokeable goodness. I have quite a bit of experience with humidity because of my musical background. I played a wooden instrument that needed to be kept at a certain humidity to preserve the wood. So I used a small humidifier my music store sold me ages ago. For you I recommend using a Boveda pack. A Boveda pack is a small pouch, much like one you would receive hand wipes in, that controls humidity. You don’t even have to do anything with it, just replace it when it dries out. They are relatively cheap and very useful!
  • Weed! of course you need the bud to complete our little stoner grocery list!

Now you have collected everything you need, the next step is to put it all together. If you are using a mason jar put the Boveda pack or whatever humidifying technique (I’ll tell you about a few DIY ones below) you would like to use into the jar. The best way to do this is to tape it to the lid, be careful not to block the humidity by doing this! If you are using a CVault then slip the Boveda pack into the slot in the lid. Also as a warning please make sure the humidifier you use is safe to use around consumable products. Anything containing harmful chemicals should not be used around your bud. Thankfully Boveda is made from 100% natural elements thus why I’m recommending them. Everyone deserves safe, well made products.

I hope that this helped some fellow stoners with this information! It really helps aid the smoking experience to have soft bud, it burns slower and lasts longer. Pro Tip: In addition to the instructions above, keeping your container in a dark, cool place will also keep the smell down and keep your stash safe. Putting your stash in a very bright, sunlight area will degrade the taste and potency.

Humidifier I use (technically for musical instrument cases): http://www.humistat.com/Humistat_Model-1.htm

When I was in the music world I learned a few helpful tips on humidification, and the two DIY humidifiers I have used and enjoyed where very simple. First an orange peel works great and smells delicious although that may not be the way to go for the taste connoisseur. My other method was to take a pill bottle and poke some holes in it (carefully!) then put a wet sponge inside. Please be aware of mold and when things need to be replaced so that you don’t put your health at risk.
